Plagiarism AND "prevent*"--MAIN
"Prevent*" AND (plagiarism OR academic dishonesty)--Second Choice
Newspaper: Preventing Plagiarism
Ellen Whyte. "Preventing plagiarism :[Main/Lifestyle Edition]. " New Straits Times 25 Jan. 2007, ProQuest Newsstand, ProQuest. Web. 21 Feb. 2011.
I chose this newspaper article because it has everything I am looking for in it. The article describes what plagiarism is and then goes on describing how to prevent accusations of plagiarism for the writers.
Scholarly Journal: Electronic Plagiarism
Charles L McLafferty Jr, and Karen M Foust. "Electronic Plagiarism as a College Instructor's Nightmare-Prevention and Detection. " Journal of Education for Business 79.3 (2004): 186-189. Platinum Periodicals, ProQuest. Web. 21 Feb. 2011.
I chose this scholarly journal because it is a guide for teachers on how to teach students to not plagiarize. Students can use this information to make sure they are not plagiarizing on papers and other projects.
Magazines: Heading off a Bogus Paper Chase
Keating, Susan Katz. "Heading off a Bogus Paper Chase. " Insight on the News 17 Apr. 1989: Platinum Periodicals, ProQuest. Web. 21 Feb. 2011.
There were not too many magazines to choose from using these search terms. I tried adding academic dishonesty to the list using the OR feature with plagiarism but it gave me pretty much the same thing. I chose this magazine article because it talks about students using other peoples work.
This activity was very informative to me for using ProQuest. I realized that the scholarly journals and newspapers include many articles that are about plagiarism. However, the magazines don't contain very many articles that include plagiarism and prevention. I did find that I received more articles all together about plagiarism when I included the plagiarism OR academic dishonesty in the advanced search.

Part 5: Summary
Well I have learned for one that Google officially can do everything; Maps, general searching, earth, shopping and now books. I would say the simplest would be the Summit Catalog because all you need is a search word. I do like the IT Pro collection the best though. If you know your topic you can search down to exactly what you want to find without having to browse through the options. For the topic plagiarism, any of these searches would work because its a pretty simple topic. In fact, the first two searches I did with the library catalog and the Summit catalog revealed a couple of the same books.
Part 5: Google Books
- Plagiarism
- Author: Bill Marsh--Title: Plagiarism: Alchemy and Remedy in Higher Education--Publication City: Albany, NY--Publisher: State University of New York Press--Publication Date: 2007
- I don't really think that Google Books really hints that this book is trustworthy. I do believe that it is trustworthy because of the known publisher and the known author.
Part 5: IT Pro
The IT Pro advanced search is much better than the other searches we have done. It is much more thorough to. I love the fact that you can search for more keywords in categories like authors, general info, and titles while you are already under the search of home pc. I used the home pc search while searching windows under general information and microsoft under author. The search gave me books by microsoft about their windows operating systems. This is exactly the books that I was expecting to find.
Part 5: SUMMIT Catalog
- Plagiarism
- Author: Heidi Watkins--Title: Plagiarism--Publishing City: Detroit, MI--Publisher: Greenhaven Press--Publishing Date: 2008
- Plagiarism, Kopieren, Wissenschaftlicher Text, Plagiat, Internet
- Summit-191758474
- I would say that this book is credible due to the fact that this author has 11 other books that she has published and nearly all of them are about things that teens need to worry about.
- This search was simpler than the Cannell Library Catalog. Just type in the word you want to search and look for the book. Can't get an easier than that.
Part 5: Library Catalog
- Plagiarism
- Author: Susan D. Blum--Title: My Word!: Plagiarism and college culture--Publishing City: Ithaca, NY--Publisher: Cornell University Press--Publication Date: 2009
- Plagiarism, Cheating, College Students
- Circulating Book
- Cannell New Books, PN167 .B48 2009
- AGE: 2009--SOURCES: Cornell University--AUTHOR: Susan D. Blum--PUBLISHER: Cornell University Press-- Besides me not knowing quite who the other is, I would say this book is pretty trustworthy coming from a respectable university's printing press.
